How often is the data updated?
We add new compensation records every month as organizations file their annual returns. You always have access to the latest available data.
Where does the data come from?
All figures come directly from the IRS Form 990 series - the official public returns nonprofits are required to file annually. Nothing is self-reported to us.
Is this just raw Form 990 data?
No. We classify free-text job titles into 16 leadership roles, exclude part-time observations, organization-years with multiple matching incumbents, and records primarily attributed to related organizations from benchmark cohorts, and align compensation to the calendar year it covers. Filed compensation is shown separately from clearly labeled current-market estimates.
How is this different from a nonprofit compensation survey?
Salary surveys rely on voluntary, self-reported data. Our compensation figures come from public filings that organizations are required to submit - providing broader coverage without sampling bias.
